How to set melee diamonds
Small sparkling melee diamonds (small diamonds under 0.1 carats). There are various ways to set melee diamonds. It is interesting to see how the appearance of the diamond changes depending on the setting method.
At Colorful, we mainly set diamonds in ball settings, which are set with four balls, star settings, which are set in the center of a star engraving, and chocolate settings, which are simply embedded in the diamond.

There are many different ways to fasten it.

1. Bezel setting (bezel setting, bezel setting, bezel setting)
This is a simple setting that gradually moves the metal around the diamond toward the diamond. It gives a cute and neat impression. It is suitable for everyday use because it does not get caught on things.
If you want to set diamonds in a row face down, you will need some space between the stones.
2. Carving
This is a method of carving patterns and prongs into the stone to set it in place. There are several types depending on the carving method.
Ball fastening
The process of setting four beads in gold to hold a diamond is called a bead setting. Four small marks are made around the edge of the stone, and the beading creates a cute impression.
Mass fastening
The stone is carved into a square shape and claws are made at the four corners to set it in place. It looks like the diamond is set in a square box, giving a sharp and cool impression. It also makes the diamond look larger.
Halo (five-light) clasp
A method of setting a stone by carving the stone like light and creating prongs within and between the stone. This is the oldest method of carving diamonds in Japan. This divine carving method, which gives the stone a halo, can look like a star or snowflake, and allows for a wide range of designs.
Lemon Clipping
A method of setting the stone by carving a lemon shape around the stone and fastening it at two points. It also looks like an "eye" or a "leaf."
Chocolate clasps (wall clasps, plate clasps, Australian clasps, fixed clasps)
This is a method of fastening the stone by crushing the edge of the hole in which the stone is placed all the way around to create a round reflection (chocolate plate). Unlike the flush-fit method, it is fastened with nails. It is concave like a sake cup, and its name comes from the appearance of sake being poured into a sake cup. The reflection makes the stone appear larger.

3, 4 claws
Each stone is firmly fixed with four metal prongs. The metal is more prominent, so it doesn't sparkle too much, and gives a more casual impression.
4. Shared nails
This is a method in which two adjacent stones are set with the same prong. Because the diamond has a larger surface area, it will sparkle more brightly, but it is more prone to snagging and is weaker than a four-prong set, so care must be taken when wearing it.
5. Rail fastening (channel setting, gutter fastening)
This method uses two rows of rail-like claws to pinch and secure diamonds that are lined up without gaps from both sides. Since there are fewer collisions, there is less risk of the diamonds falling off. Since there are no gaps, it has a neat and calm beauty.
