Ring processing variations
There are many variations in the finish even for small rings.
Just a small, subtle touch can make a ring truly unique and special.
This time, we will talk about the main processing methods used at KARAFURU.
Surface treatment of the ring
Mirror (gloss) finish
Bud -TSUBOMI-
A popular finishing method that polishes the surface until it shines like a mirror.
It has a glossy and lustrous finish and reflects the colors and hues of gemstones, making the ring shine even more.
Even when exchanging rings, it will shine brightly and make you stand out.
Matte Finish
TOU Basic Matte
A matte finish gives the surface a dull look and a soft impression. There are many different types of matte finishes.
Hairline (streaks)...
Finishing with fine hair-like lines creates a fine, silky sheen.
It gives an elegant and chic impression and is recommended for those who want to wear a ring modestly.
This is a basic finish that is also popular with men.
Diamond dust...
Diamond dust is crushed garnet grains.
These grains create countless scratches on the surface of the ring, reducing its shine.
It gives off a fine and delicate impression.
Hammered finish
TOU - Hammered finish (gloss)
The pattern created by hitting each stitch with a hammer is called tsuchime.
Various patterns are created depending on the shape and the amount of force used when striking, and creating beautiful patterns requires the highly skilled craftsmanship of the artisan. It also creates a sense of craftsmanship and antique atmosphere.
It has a collection of fine surfaces like a mirror ball, which creates a beautiful finish with light reflections.
The unique pattern created by the craftsman makes each ring one of a kind.
Milgrain
Milgrain finish added to TOU
This process involves applying a series of small beads around the edge of the ring, giving it an elegant and classic impression.
The grains must be the same size and shape, which also requires the highly skilled craftsmanship of the artisan.
The beads sparkle when exposed to light, making them the perfect finish for engagement rings and wedding rings.
Japanese tattoos (full circle, half circle, one point)
A wedding ring with a Japanese engraving and a single melee diamond
A traditional technique in which a chisel is placed against the metal and then struck with a hammer to carve.
It was originally used to engrave the tsuba (guard) of Japanese swords.
This creates a powerful engraving and also produces a stronger light as the metal rubs against itself.
At KARAFURU, you can also order original patterns, which are applied by hand by our craftsmen one by one to create a one-of-a-kind ring.
Melee Diamonds
Wedding ring "TOU" with two flat diamonds (right)
Melee diamonds are small diamonds, about 2mm in size.
They can be used in a variety of ways, such as in the center of a single Japanese tattoo or lining up around half of a ring.
The small and elegant diamonds create a subtle and glamorous atmosphere.
You can choose to have the ring on the inside or outside of the ring, and either a ball setting, star setting, or chocolate setting.
combination
TOU Combination
When choosing the base metal for your ring, if you want to use both platinum and gold, or if you want to change the feel of your ring depending on the day, we recommend a combination of different base metals.
The gradation of the base metals that is unique to this combination is beautiful, and it adds to the fun of deciding how to combine the base metals.
TOU-Tsuchime (matte) combination with two millegrain lines on top and bottom
With so many different ring finishing options available, it can be hard to decide which one to choose.
We also recommend adding Japanese engraving or milgrain to the forged TOU ring to create a one-of-a-kind semi-custom ring.
We at KARAFURU are happy to advise you, so please take your time to make your selection.
I hope you create a beautiful ring.
