Ring Shape
When making a ring, the first thing to consider is the shape of the ring.
Because it is something you will wear for a long time, you want to pay particular attention to the shape of the ring, such as comfort, fit, and design.
Here are three of the most common types of wedding rings:
Rounded
When we think of wedding rings, the first shape that comes to mind is the rounded top.
The cross section of the ring is semicircular and shaped like a kamaboko, so it is sometimes called a "kamaboko ring."
The traditional and standard design of the rounded ring is comfortable on the finger and is a suitable shape for a wedding ring that will be worn for a long time. The simple and snag-free shape makes it easy to wear while doing housework. The soft curves create a gentle impression.
There is a theory that the round-top ring became standard after it was worn at the wedding of Princess Mary of England and King Philip II of Spain in 1554.
Flat
The cross section is rectangular and angular. This smart shape is also called the "band type." When handmade, it is difficult to create a flat surface, so a beautiful flat surface is a sign of the high skill of the craftsman.
The flat surface makes it suitable for engraving and other purposes, and is also recommended for designs where the pattern becomes one when two rings are put together. You can enjoy highly fashionable rings by changing the width and thickness.
Flat blades are great for rough or large hands, but the corners can hurt.
It may be a good idea to try it on beforehand.
Hirakomaru
The flat-top ring is a combination of a flat ring and a round ring, with only the corners of the flat ring rounded. The surface remains gently flat. This shape makes the most of the best features of both the flat ring and the round ring. This is one of the most common shapes for wedding rings.
These three are the "outside" parts of the ring, but the "inside" is also important in terms of comfort.
If the inside corners of the ring are also rounded (smoothly chamfered), the wearing comfort will change.
Every finger is different. Be sure to pay attention to the basic "shape".
