Edo Kiriko: Kohei Kobayashi

We would like to introduce you to Kohei-san, the fourth generation owner of Kobayashi Glass Crafts, which has been keeping its name since Meiji 41. At Kobayashi Glass Crafts, the third generation owner, Sukuro-san, and the fourth generation owner, Kohei-san, are the two who create Edo Kiriko.

The KIRIKO series of KARAFURU is created one by one by Kohei. Compared to ordinary tableware, creating patterns on very small jewelry requires advanced techniques and sensibility.

For example, the Uo-ko series is a pair of earrings designed using only the traditional Uo-ko pattern.
This side has very thin, straight grooves cut into it that run along the metal.
No matter how beautifully the main body is finished, even the slightest misstep in the final step of carving out the grooves can ruin the whole thing - it's a tense job.

Kohei-san is able to meet our requests with his skills while protecting the traditional techniques handed down from ancient times. I hope to continue making various kinds of jewelry together with him.
