When should I buy a ring?
Engagement and wedding rings are special and expensive purchases in life. When should you start preparing?
"I wish I had started preparing a little earlier..." We have compiled a list of situations to help you avoid this.
Engagement Rings
An engagement ring is a once-in-a-lifetime event. On average, most people start preparing for it about a year before the wedding. Here are some situations in which you might prepare an engagement ring:
・When proposing (surprise)
- When handing it over or showing it to the public at the betrothal ceremony or family meeting
I think it will be narrowed down to these two.
For both, it's best to start choosing at least three months before your plans.
It seems that most people take 1.5 months from the time they start thinking about the ring to the time they make a decision, but it takes
・Standard products...2-3 weeks (It takes time to adjust the size and engrave your initials, so you cannot take the item home right away)
*Products whose design has been decided from the beginning
・Semi-order: 1 month
*Combine standard products with options
・Fully custom-made (custom-made)...2 to 3 months
*Products made to your own original specifications
It's a good idea to allow this amount of time. (The same goes for wedding rings!)
If you want to use the "box-opening" method to propose, do it beforehand
- Find out their finger size (by using a piece of paper or string while they are sleeping, or by finding out how far their ring will fit on your finger, etc.)
- Research the designs your partner likes
It is necessary to do so.
If you don't know your partner's preferences or want to choose a ring together, you can choose to prepare a temporary ring when you propose and then buy one together later.
It has recently become common for the ring to be given at the engagement ceremony or a meeting between the two families after the proposal (usually around six months before the wedding). Some families may have their own customs regarding rings, so it may be a good idea to check in advance.
Wedding Rings
Many couples start thinking about wedding rings about eight months before the wedding, and take about a month and a half to decide, just like with engagement rings.
As with engagement rings, wedding rings are made only after you place an order, so it's best to decide on one before you get busy preparing for the wedding. Also, if you want to make it in time for the meeting between the two families or the pre-wedding photo shoot, you'll need to prepare early to accommodate that. Some people buy theirs at the same time as their engagement ring.
If you can't get the ring in time for the wedding, you can use a substitute ring at the ceremony and choose it later at your leisure. If you're not having a wedding ceremony, start thinking about the ring 6 to 3 months before the ceremony, depending on the occasion you want to wear it, such as the day you registered your marriage or anniversaries such as your birthday.

When it comes to engagement and wedding rings, it's a good idea to think about when you'll need them and then plan your purchase accordingly.
Your fingers are more likely to swell after the evening, so please be careful when trying on shoes.
